Julia Softley, a newly established illustrating artist based in Perth, captivates viewers with her self-taught techniques.
Her work indulges the eye in beauty, color, and tone, showcasing a unique artistic perspective honed over years of diverse creative experiences.
From a young age, Julia was immersed in a world of craft, textiles, and music, nurturing her innate creative talents. Through years of developing meticulous hand skills and an attentive eye for detail, she built a strong illustrative foundation.
This early passion led her to pursue Fine Art studies for four years, further refining her artistic abilities, specialising in Watercolour pencil Julia loves to study the pigments, colour theory and link colour with emotional triggers via her visuals.
FASHION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Following her art education, Julia transitioned into the world of fashion. This exposure to design and business sparked an entrepreneurial spirit, culminating in the launch of her first clothing line in 2009.
Over the next 14 years, she built a successful career in womenswear apparel, exercising her talents for color, pattern, and collection innovation.
THE ART TODAY
Julia with heart and soul now focuses on her role as an 'aquarelle pencil specialist'. Her artworks showcase the culmination of her rich creative experiences, influenced by a lifelong appreciation for color and tones.
Drawing inspiration from organic movement, fashion, and botanical landscapes, her visuals captivate the eye through thoughtful compositions and aesthetically pleasing techniques.
THE FINEST MATERIALS
Not only the vision is important, Julia also believes in using high quality materials provide a pathway to aesthetic beauty. These are an extension to providing endless opputunities with colour, material and archival memories.
THOUGHT OUT VISUALS
With the combination of Julia's design and artistic methods she created visuals beginning with a digital collage and transferring the process into her illustrations.
LIMITED WORKS
Julia's Originals are one-offs however she extends her love into limited prints of each piece.
This is a wonderful and affordable way to enjoy her work.
JULIA'S LIFE
Julia, who grew up on the north coast of NSW, Australia, as a free-range child of the '80s.
She later escaped to study the Fine Arts in QLD, then progressed to enjoy the best of both worlds 'a beach city life' in Bondi Beach where she spent nearly two decades, building a successful career in the apparel industry and meeting the love of her life.
Now a mother of two young boys, Julia resides in Perth. Here, circling back to her original profession: the fine arts, specialising in watercolour pencil.
As an artist and educator, she constantly researches, develops, and shares her self-taught skills among her community including youth and children (WWC obtained).
