Welcome to the world of watercolour pencils, a forgiving, rewarding, tidy and enjoyable medium that is not as recognised as traditional watercolours. Your teacher, Julia Softley is here to spread the love for this beautiful medium and its ease as a practise.
This class is for all ages and levels of experience. Beginners to experienced creatives are welcome.
Julia will guide you through everything you need to know to get started in this meditative art practice. You will receive ongoing in-class feedback and one-on-one assistance throughout the class so that you'll be able to draw tonally with your own style and confidence.
As an educator, she believes each person develops their own style and her joy is bringing out these qualities in each student.
You will be provided with an individual reference to gather visual interest and avoid comparing yourself to others.
Some key components of this two hour class:
- An appreciation for quality materials and supplies
- An understanding of paper weights and textures
- Selecting and using resources
- Tricks of the trade in starting and using guides
- Three key techniques Julia uses daily in her own practice: glazing, layering, and blending to develop tones
- The enjoyment of switching off and using the right side of your brain
By the end of the class, you can take your artwork home, as well as new watercolour skills!

PRINTS - 310 gsm, 100% Cotton. This is a Matt archival quality paper that will give lasting image stability for many years. This paper has a slight texture which replicates the hot press cotton watercolour paper used for the original artwork. this combination of high quality print and paper provides the closest relevance and quality to the original artwork.
Your artwork will be professionally printed on 310gsm 'Smooth Pearl' paper which offers a traditional photograph aestetic, this is complimented alongside a proteticive 3mm optishield glaze. Then framed in your choice of Natural Timber, white or Black frame.

IN PERSON WORKSHOPS
Workshops are liited to Perth region and numbers per class. This is so I can focus and give each person their one-on-one attention when needed. Once you book your workshop space, I will be in touch a few days prior to the date with all info needed to attend this. (which is not much! its simple)
